Week 72...The Path of Descipleship

Elder Allen is amazing! He has built my faith in so many ways and has helped me to see what potential I really have. Both of us have had such an amazing week, meeting so many prepared people and inviting them to come unto Christ! Teaching and testifying of the Gospel brings the power of the Spirit in so many ways. I love being a representative of the Lord Jesus Christ!

Last Wednesday, we had the opportunity to teach our investigator Lxxxxx, who has been progressing and learning very well! Our lesson plan was to teach her the Gospel of Jesus Christ and to make it as simple as possible. We shared with her that faith in Jesus Christ leads us to repent and make changes. We focused on ways we could build faith in Christ, to pray often, to read from the scriptures and to come to church. We helped her understand that as we seek answers from the Lord, doing these things would open the windows of revelation and allow her to obtain an answer. We invited her to be baptized April 8th. She said that she would prepare for it! We are excited to continue to help her prepare for it!

Every Thursday we hold our weekly English Class and had new record high for the Singapore English Class being a 26 total! English Class has been a great source for introducing the Gospel to those in Singapore! At the end of every English class we have a Gospel discussion. For this particular discussion we watched "The Hope of God's Light" which is about a man who struggled to know if God existed. As we watched, how little by little he started to recognize little changes that began to change his life until finally, he was humble enough to receive an answer and learned for himself that the hope of God's light is real. After the video, I stood up and shared my testimony that I too know that God's light is real and that it is up to us whether we choose to seek for it. Seeking that light takes an act of faith. As we do so, our pathway before us is illuminated. I was surprised to see an old investigator named Hxxxx, who had traveled to China 3 months earlier. He came up to me and we talked and caught up on old times. He said that he wanted to continue to learn and that we could meet again next week! MIRACLES! He is such an awesome man and I look forward to meeting with him this week!

As we were contacting home, we were walking up the stairs and this lady just starts talking to us in Mandarin.
1. No one starts a conversation with us in mandarin unless they know who we are.
2. You had better stop and talk to them!
Anyway we talked with her and at first she was interested in just meeting to talk, not so much the Gospel. We gave her a pass along card and exchanged phone numbers and did not think it would go further than that.... Well... She was awesome! She told us that her husband was really interested in learning more about Jesus Christ because they had sent their son to a christian church growing up but have never gone much before themselves. Her husband Xxxx Bxxx was such an awesome guy to talk to. He comes from China and is finishing up school. As we met with him, we shared about the God head and taught him how to pray! He said the closing prayer and did a really good job! We are scheduled to meet him again tomorrow so it should be exciting!

This week, Elder Allen and I are going to meet with the bishopric and discuss with them are vision and goals for the next 4 weeks. I had the opportunity to go on exchanges with Elder Leavitt a few days back and he taught me the importance of working with stake and ward leaders. We met with his Bishop's and discussed the needs of the ward and what they could do to benefit the members. He told Bishop that he doesn't expect a dinner appointment unless he brings someone to church. That inspired me to work with our Bishop a little more closely and help engage our ward in missionary work. We are also working on planning ahead with our lessons and inviting members to help teach those lessons. It has proved to be a great success as we have planned in advance for lessons.

A scripture that I am pondering this week is Ether 12:26-27 which reads:

26 And when I had said this, the Lord spake unto me, saying: Fools mock, but they shall mourn; and my grace is sufficient for the meek, that they shall take no advantage of your weakness;

27 And if men come unto me I will show unto them their weakness. I give unto men weakness that they may be humble; and my grace is sufficient for all men that humble themselves before me; for if they humble themselves before me, and have faith in me, then will I make weak things become strong unto them.

I have learned an important lesson which is that the path of discipleship is one of the most difficult but most rewarding path that any person can ever take. I liken the process of becoming more like the Savior to Lehi's dream which he tells of a man dressed in a white robe who bade him follow him into the mist of darkness. We will all walk into our own mists of darkness. Just as the Lord says, "if men come unto me, I will show unto them their weakness" Just because I feel weak sometimes does not mean that the Lord is displeased. He is simply helping me understand what I need to improve upon and is with me every step of the way. I am so grateful for the Gospel of Jesus Christ! It is a blessing to be serving the Lord at this time! I am grateful for those who have been serving along side me. Each of them have made such a significant impact in my life and for that I am eternally grateful. I want to share my testimony that I know that God loves each of us! He is our Father. He sent His son Jesus Christ to share our burdens and even more so, take them from us. I love them with all my heart and I share these things in the name of Jesus Christ, amen.

Love,
Elder Shirley

Week 76..."This past week has been one of faith and might!"

This week, I had the opportunity to watch conference which was an absolute blast! I love hearing from the prophets and apostles speak and offer counsel to those that are seeking it. How grateful I am that our Heavenly Father in this period of time has a prophet upon the earth. I have a testimony that as we heed the words of the prophet and those that are called alongside him, that we will never go astray. This past week has been one of faith and might! I am grateful for the opportunity to come and serve the people of Singapore. It hasn't always been easy but I can honestly say it has been all worth it! A simple principle of faith that I learned from General Conference was what Elder Choi had said saying, "Don't look around, Look up!" I have learned that if all that I do is look around, I can never progress, however, as I continue to steadfastly look up toward heaven, then I find myself changing in so many ways. Axxxxx is awesome! She is something else...

Week 75...Experiences that have increased my faith and built my testimony up this week.

The things you get to learn on a mission are just awesome! I am so glad that I decided to serve the Lord for two years. I would be nowhere close to where I am at right now. I am indeed grateful for the experiences that I have been able to have on my mission and for what they have taught me personally. I know that the Lord, Jesus Christ is very well aware of what I go through and is continuing to lift me up every hour of the day. I know that He lives. His love is real and extends to all who seek it. I wish to share with you some of the experiences that I have had this week that have increased my faith and built my testimony up. Trust in the Lord.  I have really felt the need to say that after the many challenges and trials that seem to be never ending, that I simply can not do it on my own. If I continue to try and do something on my own and just push forward, then I have already failed. I cannot do it on my own. It is sometimes painful to admit that because I feel that in orde...

Week 71...The Sound of Rejoicing

March 5, 2016 Hello! I love the Gospel of Jesus Christ! It is honestly the best thing ever. I know that sometimes it feels like the Gospel can only apply to those that we teach and share with but first and foremost it is to strengthen yourself and give you the confidence and boost of energy that you need throughout the week. I love the Savior Jesus Christ. He is my teacher and exemplar and I look to Him as one of my closest friends and for that I am eternally grateful. This week I have been thinking to myself how I could better help those people that I have been working with feel the power of the Spirit and to continue to be excited to meet again and learn. It was also something that I have been thinking about as we contact other people in Singapore. We do strive to talk with everyone and look for opportunities to serve those around us, however, I have felt that we weren't yielding the same success as weeks prior. Then everything changed!  D&C 28:16 "And thou m...
