Last Monday, we were on our way to the church building for a Family Home Evening activity. As we approached the building I noticed the lights on in the fifth floor which is where the mission office is located. I asked Elder Boud if there was anything up there that we needed. At first he said no, but then we remembered that a sister in our ward asked us for a Russian Copy of the Book of Mormon for her friend that lived here in Singapore. We decided to go and grab that. We quickly went up, grabbed it and then headed back down to the second floor where we usually meet. As we were preparing the food with our member, a man walked in and I had no idea who he was. It wasn't a friend of the members and it wasn't the sisters investigator. We started talking with him and as soon as he started speaking both Elder Boud and I just stared at him and each other. He told us that he arrived in Singapore about a day earlier and that he was walking around for a church to visit and learn. Elder Boud was just like, "This guy is from Russia!" "I have a Russian Book of Mormon in my backpack right now!..." He stayed for FHE and then he asked if he could keep a copy of The Book of Mormon which we happily gave to him. Sometimes we do things for reasons that we know of when in fact, the Lord is furthering His work and just having us be the tools in which He is able to do that.
A few days ago, we were preparing to go to the church building when we received a text asking both of us if we could give a blessing to her. We met with her at the church and I had the privilege of giving her that blessing. As I did so, I could feel the Spirit so powerfully and truly felt God simply was using me as a mouth piece to communicate with her. Each of us can be such powerful instruments in the hands of God. Sometimes we are an answer to a persons prayer and therefore we must act on the promptings that we receive from the Spirit. I am so grateful for the Spirit and for the Priesthood Power of God here upon the earth. It has truly blessed my life so much and I wish to also bless the lives of others.
As we have been meeting with the members in Singapore, we have really begun to build friendships with them that have really strengthened each of us. We are looking for simple opportunities to serve them and help them in any way that we can. A couple of the young adults are leaving for their missionary service soon and we are going to miss them! I know that each of them are going to do really good out in the field. We are hoping to continue meeting with the members and building their testimonies of the Gospel!
This week I thought about Doctrine and Covenants 42:14 which says,
" And the Spirit shall be given unto you by the prayer of faith; and if ye receive not the Spirit ye shall not teach."
I know that as we live our lives in such a way as to invite the Spirit to come into our lives then we will be able to teach with power. I am grateful for the Spirit and its influence in my life and how it has been able to change me to push myself to become better. I know that the Gospel is true. I love the simplicity of its message and I know that if we wish to know if it is true then we need to get on our knees and ask our Father in Heaven. If we are willing to act on whatever answer is given then He will answer us! I share my testimony that Jesus Christ lives and that He is our Savior in the name of Jesus Christ, amen.
Love,
Elder Shirley
