Week 58... I'll never forget my Buddy and what he taught me.

December 13, 2016

Ni hao! This past week has been such a good week!(Got to ride an Elephant in Indonesia!!!) Full of tender mercies from the Lord and a continual knowledge that He loves each and every one of us no matter what. I am grateful for my Father in Heaven and for His eternal plan. I know that as we place our trust and faith in Him, he will always lift us up even higher and will continue to help us to become stronger each and every day. I know without a doubt that the Atonement of Jesus Christ is real. I have realized time and time again that it is not just a one-time experience that you may feel an eternal joy within yourself but that it must be used consistently without delay. I have found that as we delay bringing our concerns to the Lord it only brings us down farther and we become more miserable. I have a testimony that as we place our burdens before the Lord, He will make things right. He will bless us with strength beyond our own. He will bless to us to feel that very love that He has for each of us.

I wish to share an experience about the Light of Christ that had tremendously impacted me. This past Saturday we had an opportunity to go to a nursing home for the Elderly and it was such a neat experience. We were first assigned to a "buddy" that we were to be paired with. We started off with learning names, favorite food and our birthdays. My buddy could not speak and so both of us decided that it would be best if we moved our eyebrows up and down and that was how we communicated. We had a lot of time to laugh after doing that. We played games, then moved into singing some Christmas Carols! It was a ton of fun. Lastly, the people in charge brought out some cake and gave slices to the helpers to bring back to their buddies. As I brought my cake back, I fed my buddy a little bite of cake and he would chew it slowly, swallow and then he would look back at me. I took it as if he were ready for the next bite when all of the sudden he raises his hand about halfway and stops me from giving him this piece of cake. I tried again but he stopped me. Finally, my friend looks down at this little bite size of cake and he points at me. I was somewhat confused pointed at myself and asked him if it was for me. He pointed at me again. I then ate a little part of this cake and then his face was content and he opened his mouth for another bite of cake. I thought that was very funny that he would do that but then after every bite he would take, he would repeat as he did before and offer me a piece of this cake. I am so grateful for those who seek to share with others. I have a testimony that the light of Christ exists in all of us, no matter who we are or what our background is, it exists. It is real, it is pure, it is light.

I have really come to understand more about prayer and how it is such a blessing. Truly if we are speaking to our Father in Heaven, He most certainly does answer back. I have really tried to build my testimony of prayer so that I may more fully talk with my Father in Heaven. As I was reading and studying I came across this saying from President Hinckley which reads;
"The marvelous thing about prayer is that it is personal,it's
individual, it’s something that no one else gets into, in terms of your speaking with your Father in Heaven in the
name of the Lord Jesus Christ.Be prayerful. Ask the Lord to
forgive your sins. Ask the Lord for help. Ask the Lord to bless
you. Ask the Lord to help you realize your righteous
ambitions.
… Ask the Lord for all of the important things that mean so
much to you in your lives. He stands ready to help. Don’t
ever forget it."

I just want to share my testimony that I know that this church is true and that I am
grateful for all that the Lord has helped me to accomplish. I know that
when life gets hard, get on your knees and pray. I share this in the name
of Jesus Christ, amen.

Love,
Elder Shirley

Went on a visa run to Indonesia and had a bit of fun while we were there.

Week 76..."This past week has been one of faith and might!"

This week, I had the opportunity to watch conference which was an absolute blast! I love hearing from the prophets and apostles speak and offer counsel to those that are seeking it. How grateful I am that our Heavenly Father in this period of time has a prophet upon the earth. I have a testimony that as we heed the words of the prophet and those that are called alongside him, that we will never go astray. This past week has been one of faith and might! I am grateful for the opportunity to come and serve the people of Singapore. It hasn't always been easy but I can honestly say it has been all worth it! A simple principle of faith that I learned from General Conference was what Elder Choi had said saying, "Don't look around, Look up!" I have learned that if all that I do is look around, I can never progress, however, as I continue to steadfastly look up toward heaven, then I find myself changing in so many ways. Axxxxx is awesome! She is something else...

Week 75...Experiences that have increased my faith and built my testimony up this week.

The things you get to learn on a mission are just awesome! I am so glad that I decided to serve the Lord for two years. I would be nowhere close to where I am at right now. I am indeed grateful for the experiences that I have been able to have on my mission and for what they have taught me personally. I know that the Lord, Jesus Christ is very well aware of what I go through and is continuing to lift me up every hour of the day. I know that He lives. His love is real and extends to all who seek it. I wish to share with you some of the experiences that I have had this week that have increased my faith and built my testimony up. Trust in the Lord.  I have really felt the need to say that after the many challenges and trials that seem to be never ending, that I simply can not do it on my own. If I continue to try and do something on my own and just push forward, then I have already failed. I cannot do it on my own. It is sometimes painful to admit that because I feel that in orde...

Week 71...The Sound of Rejoicing

March 5, 2016 Hello! I love the Gospel of Jesus Christ! It is honestly the best thing ever. I know that sometimes it feels like the Gospel can only apply to those that we teach and share with but first and foremost it is to strengthen yourself and give you the confidence and boost of energy that you need throughout the week. I love the Savior Jesus Christ. He is my teacher and exemplar and I look to Him as one of my closest friends and for that I am eternally grateful. This week I have been thinking to myself how I could better help those people that I have been working with feel the power of the Spirit and to continue to be excited to meet again and learn. It was also something that I have been thinking about as we contact other people in Singapore. We do strive to talk with everyone and look for opportunities to serve those around us, however, I have felt that we weren't yielding the same success as weeks prior. Then everything changed!  D&C 28:16 "And thou m...
