Week 69... I Love this Work!

February 19, 2017

This week has definitely been a mighty missionary week! Miracles present, lives changed, testimonies strengthened. I know that missionary work is true and the Lord Jesus Christ is leads and guides it through a living prophet! I love being a missionary. I am probably the most happiest when I open my mouth and share the Gospel with those around me. There is no greater joy than to be serving the Lord and inviting others to come unto Christ. I used to think that if you weren't set apart to be a missionary that inviting others to learn about the Gospel would be close to impossible. I have learned since then that that is not the case. As we open our mouth to invite others, we exercise faith, and when we exercise faith, we invite miracles into our lives by the hand of the Lord.

This past Friday, I had the opportunity to go on exchanges with Elder Forsyth who had recently moved to Singapore from Kuala Lumpur. The focus of the exchange was opening our mouth and talking with everyone that we could. At first, progress seemed slow and no one was very willing to talk with us but we kept going knowing that as we continued to open our mouth, miracles would start happening. I remembered an Elder who had said that, "God wants to bless us with people to find and to teach but we need to gain His trust first. If we don't open our mouth to talk, then God can not pass us those that are prepared." Elder Forsyth and I decided to do the best that we could. Little by little, we started finding those that had interest in the Gospel and even as we were walking, people would ask us what we were doing and they would then have so much interest, simply because we had chosen to open our mouth and proclaim the Gospel.

English Class has been proving to be an amazing place to find those that are prepared and is a low-stressful way of introducing the Gospel. Each English class as we share a gospel message, about 95% of the students stay for it. This past Sunday we were able to invite 2 students to come with us to church. They stayed for all 3 hours and loved it! After church, we had the chance to share with them more about the Gospel and the Plan of Salvation! They thought it was awesome and want to come back next week and continue to learn more.

The members are doing amazing! Each of them bring fire and the Spirit to church meetings and are continuing to reach out to our investigators and help fellowship them. We are hoping as time goes on that we will be able to continue to reach out and serve them as much as we can. We have some Less Actives that are starting the process of coming back to church and we are excited to continue to help them feel the Love of God!

I love this work! I am grateful to spend time here in Asia to share the Gospel. Although there will be difficult times, the Lord has power to lift us up and strengthen us immensely! I know that this church is true! That it was restored in these latter days in preparation for the Second coming of Jesus Christ. I am grateful for the Atonement of Christ and the love that Christ had for me to suffer for my sins so that I may have the opportunity to return to God's presence. I share my testimony in the name of Jesus Christ, amen.

Love,
Elder Shirley

Week 76..."This past week has been one of faith and might!"

This week, I had the opportunity to watch conference which was an absolute blast! I love hearing from the prophets and apostles speak and offer counsel to those that are seeking it. How grateful I am that our Heavenly Father in this period of time has a prophet upon the earth. I have a testimony that as we heed the words of the prophet and those that are called alongside him, that we will never go astray. This past week has been one of faith and might! I am grateful for the opportunity to come and serve the people of Singapore. It hasn't always been easy but I can honestly say it has been all worth it! A simple principle of faith that I learned from General Conference was what Elder Choi had said saying, "Don't look around, Look up!" I have learned that if all that I do is look around, I can never progress, however, as I continue to steadfastly look up toward heaven, then I find myself changing in so many ways. Axxxxx is awesome! She is something else...

Week 75...Experiences that have increased my faith and built my testimony up this week.

The things you get to learn on a mission are just awesome! I am so glad that I decided to serve the Lord for two years. I would be nowhere close to where I am at right now. I am indeed grateful for the experiences that I have been able to have on my mission and for what they have taught me personally. I know that the Lord, Jesus Christ is very well aware of what I go through and is continuing to lift me up every hour of the day. I know that He lives. His love is real and extends to all who seek it. I wish to share with you some of the experiences that I have had this week that have increased my faith and built my testimony up. Trust in the Lord.  I have really felt the need to say that after the many challenges and trials that seem to be never ending, that I simply can not do it on my own. If I continue to try and do something on my own and just push forward, then I have already failed. I cannot do it on my own. It is sometimes painful to admit that because I feel that in orde...

Week 71...The Sound of Rejoicing

March 5, 2016 Hello! I love the Gospel of Jesus Christ! It is honestly the best thing ever. I know that sometimes it feels like the Gospel can only apply to those that we teach and share with but first and foremost it is to strengthen yourself and give you the confidence and boost of energy that you need throughout the week. I love the Savior Jesus Christ. He is my teacher and exemplar and I look to Him as one of my closest friends and for that I am eternally grateful. This week I have been thinking to myself how I could better help those people that I have been working with feel the power of the Spirit and to continue to be excited to meet again and learn. It was also something that I have been thinking about as we contact other people in Singapore. We do strive to talk with everyone and look for opportunities to serve those around us, however, I have felt that we weren't yielding the same success as weeks prior. Then everything changed!  D&C 28:16 "And thou m...
